It’s Not About The Freshly Baked Cookie Smell!

On occasion, I have had eager sellers ask me if they should bake cookies before their open houses or showings. While everyone LOVES the smell of freshly baked cookies, the key to selling your home does not lie in a batch of freshly baked goods. Instead, there are other scents that have a strong impact on prospective buyers. Fresh paint and carpet are scents that buyers love when entering a home. Is it because people inherently like the smell of cookies more than paint and carpet? Absolutely not! It is all about what picture these scents create in the context of homeownership. When walking into a home that smells this way, it creates the idea of cleanliness or a blank slate, so to speak.  Anymore, buyers are also opting for a move in ready property with minimal work, which is exactly what comes to mind with both of these scents. These projects are a win win for sellers as well because they come with a high ROI in a real estate sale.  If you are thinking of starting projects around your property, and don’t know where to start, or what is best for a sale, please feel free to connect with me! But, just remember, a batch of cookies is a nice touch, but not a primary driver behind what will sell your home.
